The Foremother Award recognizes Colorado women who are
creating a legacy of positive social change for women, their families and their
communities. Foremothers are leaders and pioneers in their endeavors, and consistently
strive to develop the leadership of other women. Foremothers embody the highest personal
and professional ideals and standards in their work and their lives. Foremothers are women
of commitment, caring, courage and vision.

1999 Foremother
Award recipients:
"Cec" is a longtime community leader working on
workforce training and business development for women. She has worked in various
governmental positions supporting the small business community and minority and women's
business development. As the former director of Mi Casa Resource Center for Women, Cec was
responsible for an extensive employment and training program for low-income, minority
women and girls in Denver. Cec currently serves as a board member on the President's
Community Advisory Board for Metropolitan State College, Project Wise Women's
Self-sufficiency non-profit Center, the Women's Foundation of Colorado and the National
Council of La Raza. She is actively involved in the America's Economic Agenda campaign
sponsored by the Washington based Center for Policy Alternatives.
Jean is affectionately known as "the Mother of all
Denver business women" and a lifelong mentor and consultant to women in the business
community. Jean has lead countless organizations, from Director of the Fashion Group
International to the National Association of Women Business Owners, International Women's
Forum, Older Women's League and many more...
